The 4-wheel steering cam 4×4 is a replacement part that was made by Hayward. The same high-quality materials were used to manufacture the original factory part. Making this a genuine OEM product.
This cam gear was designed to give these suction cleaners the ability to reverse out of trouble areas like the steps, ensuring they don’t get stuck and can cover the entire surface of the pool as it cleans. This part also works in conjunction with the steering bracket roller which transfers the rotating power created by this gear, to the wheels so the cleaner can maneuver around the surface.
The cam gear is white with three specific cams along with the larger outer wheel which acts as a timer for when the cleaner should go into reverse mode by detaching the steering roller from the left wheel hub, only allowing the right to turn, ultimately turning the cleaner as well. Now the teeth on these gears can wear over the length of time and use of the cleaners so we suggest checking these gears periodically as they will need to be replaced at some point.
